The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is set to begin Sunday, July 14 and runs through Saturday, July 20. During this window, law enforcement personnel will be monitoring the roads for commercial drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in dangerous driver behaviors. Those pulled over for unsafe driving will issued a warning and/or citation by law enforcement officials.
According to the NHTSA, 26 percent of all traffic fatalities were a result of speeding. Because of this and other similar statistics, Operation Safe Driver Week will be placing emphasis on speeding this year. Law enforcement jurisdictions throughout North American will be endorsing and promoting the message, “Late won’t kill you, speeding will.”
Additionally, law enforcement personnel will be keeping an eye out for other dangerous driving behaviors including distracted driving, texting, failure to use a seatbelt, improper lane change, drunk or drugged driving, and more.
Operation Safe Driver Week is sponsored by the CVSA, in partnership with the FMCSA, and with the support from industry and transportation safety organizations. It aims to help improve the behavior of all drivers operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner through educational and traffic enforcement strategies.
